Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: High Priestess of Prophecy

High Priestess of Prophecy
[Spellcaster/Effect]
ATK/2,500 DEF/2,100
You can reveal 3 “Spellbook” Spell Cards in your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand. Once per turn: You can banish 1 “Spellbook” Spell Card from your hand or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy that target.

Konami introduced Prophecy and Spellbooks in Return of the Duelist. One of my favorite cards was released, and she is the High Priestess of Prophecy. Her original card from Japan is amazing, but Konami slightly censored her art in western releases. High Priestess of Prophecy is one of the bosses in Spellbook decks. She is very easy to summon and has useful effects.

High Priestess of Prophecy’s first effect reveals three Spellbook Spell Cards in your hand to special summon her from your hand. Her effect is simply amazing. You are getting a free monster without needing to tribute any monsters. You will be able to activate the effect in many duels. Spellbooks are able to draw many cards every turn so you should not have a problem activating this effect.

Furthermore, High Priestess of Prophecy is a level seven monster, and you can easily use her to Xyz Summon rank seven monsters. Special summon at least two copies of her to the field, and you are ready to summon Xyz monsters. Many rank seven monsters are some of the strongest Xyz monsters. You may summon Ebon Illusion Magician, Number 11: Big Eye, and Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon. These monsters will turn the momentum in your favor!

Rank 7 Monsters can be special summoned by two copies of High Priestess of Prophecy.

  • Ebon High Magician
  • Ebon Illusion Magician
  • Hierophant of Prophecy
  • Number 11: Big Eye
  • Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon

I really like High Priestess of Prophecy’s second effect. Her 2500 attack points are not impressive. However, her second effect makes up for her average power. High Priestess of Prophecy can destroy any card on the field by banishing a Spellbook Spell Card from your hand or graveyard. You will have some control over the field. Her effect destroys monsters, face down cards, field cards, traps, and spell cards.

Furthermore, the Spellbook of Wisdom gives High Priestess of Prophecy protection from Spell and Trap cards. Spellbook of Wisdom makes her unaffected by Spell and Trap cards for the turn. You can prevent your opponent from destroying her with Dark Hole, Mirror Force, and Trap Hole. You may safely summon her to the field. However, Counter Trap Cards can bypass the Spellbook of Wisdom. Solemn Judgment can negate the summon and destroy High Priestess of Prophecy.

Play these powerful cards with High Priestess of Prophecy!

  • Temperance of Prophecy
  • Spellbook of Power
  • Spellbook of Wisdom

Overall, High Priestess of Prophecy is a fantastic card. I always play three copies of her in my Spellbook deck to have a consistent engine. High Priestess of Prophecy has a lot of great qualities. She special summons herself to the field without losing resources. She is also a level seven monster, and can summon rank seven Xyz monsters. She distributes your opponent’s field by destroying a card every card.
