Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon

Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon

Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon

[Dragon / Xyz / Effect]

ATK/2,800 DEF/2,400
Cannot be destroyed by card effects while it has Xyz Material. While this card has Xyz Material, each time your opponent activates a card or effect, inflict 500 damage to your opponent immediately after it resolves. Once per turn, during either player’s turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 “Red-Eyes” Normal Monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it.

Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon is one of my favorite XYZ monsters. I played it for many years before the Link format. Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon is a rank seven XYZ monster with three effects. Many decks can use its first and second effects. The third effect is an usual ability for Red-Eyes decks.

Self-Protection

Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon’s first skill prevents it from being destroyed by your opponent’s effects. This effect remains active as long as Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon has XYZ Matrieral. Your opponent’s only option is to destroy it by battle! Furthermore, Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon’s high ATK of 2,800 makes it difficult to destroy in battle. It is stronger than many monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

However, this effect does not prevent your opponent from banishing this card. Card effects can banish Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon from the field. Thus, an opponent removes Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon from the game. It is the perfect counter for this effect. For example, Black Luster Soldier -Envoy of The Beginning uses his skill effect to banish Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon.

Burn!

Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon’s second effect is a great ability for dealing easy damage to your opponent. The effect deals 500 damage to your opponent when he or she activates and resolves a card or an effect. It quickly drains the opposing player’s life points. For example,  Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon deals 2,000 damage if your opponent resolves four effects. It creates a good strategy to limit your opponent’s opinions. He or she will consider their life points before activating too many effects.

Special Summon!

Finally, Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon’s final ability special summons a normal monster with “Red-Eyes” in its name from the graveyard. The most obvious card to special summon from the graveyard is Red-Eyes B. Dragon. This effect sets up a XYZ summon. In two turns, you may use two Red-Eyes B. Dragons to XYZ summon another Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon. Two of these powerful monsters can deliver major damage to an opponent.

Card Rating

Overall, Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon is a powerful XYZ monster with effective effects. Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon’s first and second effects make it a great card for many decks. The ability to deal damage after your opponent activates a card effect is a great ability. Every deck in the game is vulnerable to this effect. Burn your opponent’s life points with Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon!

    1. Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon is not affected by Raigeki when Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon has XYZ Material. If this card does not have XYZ Material, then Raigeki can destroy it.
