This card’s name becomes “Red-Eyes Black Dragon” while on the field or in the GY. If your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) (except during the Damage Step): You can send this card from your hand or field to the GY; Special Summon 1 “Red-Eyes” monster from your hand or Deck, except “Red-Eyes Soul”. You can only use this effect of “Red-Eyes Soul” once per turn. (Quick Effect): You can target 1 “Red-Eyes Black Dragon” you control; inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster’s original ATK. You can only use this effect of “Red-Eyes Soul” once per Duel.

Red-Eyes Soul is the soul of Red-Eyes Black Dragon. This effect monster is level seven and it has three effects. The name of the card represents its effects. This effect monster special summons a Red-Eyes to your field and inflicts damage to the opponent with its effects.

First Effect:

The name of Red-Eyes Soul becomes Red-Eyes Black Dragon when this card is on the field or in the graveyard. This effect adds consistency to the deck. The deck has an additional monster with the name of Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Cards in the archetype need the monster with this name for effects and combos.

Furthermore, Red-Eyes Soul is a secondary option in the place of Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Cards with effects for Red-Eyes Black Dragon may interact with this card. This effect monster meets the conditions for supportive cards’ effects. For example, Inferno Fire Blast may target Red-Eyes Soul to inflict damage to the opponent.

In addition, this effect allows you to replace Red-Eyes Black Dragon with Red-Eyes Soul for fusions when Red-Eyes Soul is on the field or in the graveyard. This monster becomes material for fusion monsters. You may use Red-Eyes Soul as fusion material for fusion monsters such as Meteor Black Comet Dragon

Second Effect:

Red-Eyes Soul is a hand trap for Red-Eyes. You may discard Red-Eyes Soul from your hand or remove Red-Eyes Soul from your field to special summon a monster with Red-Eyes in its  name from your hand or deck when an opponent’s special summons a monster. This effect sets up your field during either player’s turn.

Therefore, this effect enables the deck’s strategy with Red-Eyes Black Dragon. This effect is a great method for getting Red-Eyes Black Dragon. You may special summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon with the effect of Red-Eyes Soul. You have the deck’s main monster on the field. Then, you may proceed with many combos.

In addition, Red-Eyes Soul may also special summon Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from the deck. These are useful monsters in the archetype. They also have effects with the ability to special summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon.

Third Effect:

Red-Eyes Soul inflicts damage equal to the ATK of a Red-Eyes Black Dragon on the field to the opponent. This effect is inflicting 2,400 points of damage to an opponent. You are decreasing the opponent’s life points by more than a quarter, and this effect can win the game if the opponent has 2,400 or less than life points.

However, you may only activate the effect of Red-Eyes Soul once per duel. This limitation balances the card. This limitation prevents the player from abusing this card. It limits the amount of damage from this effect in a single game.

Material for Special Summons:

Red-Eyes Soul may also be a substitute for the original Red-Eyes Black Dragon for fusion monsters. The first effect of this monster enables this strategy. This effect monster must be on the field for its name to become Red-Eyes Black Dragon.

In addition, Red-Eyes Soul is also fusion material for fusion monsters with the requirement of a monster with Red-Eyes in its name. The name of the this effect fits the archetype and the conditions. The conditions are easy requirements, and you may consistent meet the requirements for these fusion monster’s materials.

For example, you may use Red-Eyes Soul as fusion material for Meteor Black Comet Dragon. You only need Polymerization and a level 6 dragon for the fusion summon. The materials for this summon are easy conditions to meet.

Support:

Red-Eyes Soul has a lot of solid support. Due to this effect monster’s effect and its original name, it has support for Red-Eyes and Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Cards in the archetype may add this card to your hand. Generic support for dragons assist this effect monster.

Return of the Dragon Lords is a stellar spell card for dragons. This spell card complements Red-Eyes Soul. Return of the Dragon Lords may special summon Red-Eyes Soul from your graveyard.

Card Rating:

Overall, Red-Eyes Soul is a nice addition to Red-Eyes. This effect monster brings consistency to the deck. The change in this card’s name allows it to be fusion material for certain cards. It also interacts with your support for Red-Eyes Black Dragon. I recommend playing two to three copies of Red-Eyes Soul in your deck.
