Unit of The Week: Holy Seraph, Oriphiel

That smile, would bring about a remission even in a faked illness.

[G guardian] (Usable when both fighters’ vanguards are grade 3 or greater, and the number of face up G guardians in your G zone is three or less)-Opponent Turn’s Guard Step-[Choose a card with “Heal” from your hand, and discard it] Call this card to your (GC) from face down.
[CONT](GC):If the number of cards in your damage zone is four or more, this unit gets [Shield]+5000.

Holy Seraph, Oriphiel is Angel Feather’s first G-Guardian. She is a sign of her time. Bushiroad was finding the proper balance and defense for G-Guardians. Holy Seraph, Oripheil has nice artwork, but her defensive ability is among the worst in Angel Feather’s G-Guardians.

Ability:

Holy Seraph, Oriphiel gains 5,000 shield when your damage zone has four or more cards. You most likely will meet the requirement in the mid game or the late game. Her defensive ability provides additional shield against the opponent’s attacks.

Therefore, the total shield of Holy Seraph, Oriphiel becomes 20,000. This defense can block some attacks from the opponent’s monsters. It is respectable defense against many opposing rear-guards.

Flaws:

However, Holy Seraph, Oriphiel is an underwhelming G-Guardian with a weak effect for defense. This card is a sign of her time in the first wave of G-Guardians. The defense from this card has a decent stat. The requirement for 5,000 is an awful condition.

Furthermore, Angel Feather’s heal triggers from the V-Series already have a shield of 20,000. You do do not need to wait for four cards in the damage. Sunny Smile Angel (V Series) with a shield of 20,000 has more value than Holy Seraph, Oriphiel

This ability is basically Limit Break without the official term, and it is way too slow. You must have four cards in the damage zone to gain the additional 5,000 shield. It is not worth the wait for this small amount of defense.

Furthermore, Holy Seraph, Oriphiel has lost value through the years because Bushiroad has created powerful grade 3 units from the V-Series and new G-Units. These new units generate a lot of power and they outclass this G-Guardian. You will still need multiple cards to block attacks.

Support:

Holy Seraph, Oriphiel is a generic card for Angel Feather. You may play this G-Guardian in any deck with Angel Feather. You may play this card with popular archetypes such as Black Gravers, Celestials, and Nociel.

Holy Seraph, Basasael is a useful G-Unit in decks with Holy Seraph Oriphiel. Holy Seraph, Basasael extends your limit of damage to 8 and this ability allows you to accept additional damage. You can safely accept damage to have four or more cards in the damage zone for Holy Seraph Oriphiel.

Play these cards with Holy Seraph Oriphiel!

Better Options for G-Guardians:

Angel Feather has better options than Holy Seraph Oriphiel for Guardians. Super Mobile Hospital, Firmament Glanz may superior call a card from your damage zone to guardian circle for additional defense, and you are not required to place a new card in your damage zone. You gain a card for defense and heal one point of damage. Holy Seraph, Suriel heals damage and deals one point of damage with a chance for a trigger.

Card Rating:

Overall, Holy Seraph Oriphiel is one of Angel Feather’s worst cards in the V-Premium Format. This G-Guardian has not aged well due to her design. The card is too slow for today’s game. Her defensive stats are underwhelming numbers in comparison to other cards from her clan. Angel Feather has much better options for G-Guardians such as Holy Seraph, Suriel. Therefore, I suggest looking at other options like Holy Seraph, Suriel and Super Mobile Hospital, Firmament Glanz.

V-Premium Format: 2.0 out of 5.0 stars
