Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Injection Fairy Lily

[Spellcaster/Effect]

ATK/400 DEF/1,500

If this card attacks or is attacked, during damage calculation (in either player’s turn): You can pay 2000 LP once per battle; this card gains 3000 ATK during that damage calculation only.

Injection Fairy Lily is an effect monster with a single effect. This card was banned from Yu-Gi-Oh! due to her strong impact in the past, but she is now an unlimited card in tournaments. She has a lot of offensive potential due to her single effect. She has a lot of support from generic cards for spellcasters.

Furthermore, Injection Fairy Lily is a spellcaster, despite fairy in her name. Her artwork clearly resembles a fairy, but Konami made her to be a spellcaster. It is an odd decision.

Effect:

Injection Fairy Lily gains 3,000 ATK during the damage calculation of either player’s turn at the cost of 2,000 life points. You may activate the effect when you declare an attack or when the opponent attacks this card. This effect monster’s total ATK becomes an impressive 3,400.

For example, Injection Fairy Lily can easily destroy Blue-Eyes White Dragon in battle. This spellcaster increases her ATK to 3,4000 during this battle. She would destroy the legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon in battle at the cost of 2,000 life points.

In addition, Injection Fairy Lily was a strong card during the early years of Yu-Gi-Oh!. You normal summon this monster without a tribute or cost. You have a monster with the effect to easily increase her ATK to 3,400. She could inflict massive damage to the opponent and this effect won a lot of games.

Support:

Injection Fairy Lily has a lot of generic support. Spellcasters have a lot of support for any spellcaster. You may play this card with Dark Magician and Spellbooks. You may also build a generic deck for spellcasters with this card.

Spellbook of Wisdom provides protection to Injection Fairy Lily. This quick-play spell card prevents the opponent’s spells or traps affecting this monster. You decide the type of card to be unable to affect this effect monster.

Eda the Sun Magician and Magician’s Circle may special summon Injection Fairy Lily from the deck. These cards provide quick access to this effect monster. Magician’s Circle is a great option during the opponent’s turn when you may need a monster.

Witch of the Black Forest may add Injection Fairy Lily from the deck to your hand. It is a classic strategy with Witch of the black Forest. You get a monster with less than 1,500 ATK from the deck. It is an effective strategy for adding Injection Fairy Lily to your hand.

Play these cards with Injection Fairy Lily!
  • Eda the Sun Magician
  • Spellbook of Wisdom
  • Witch of the Black Forest

Anime Appearances:

Injection Fairy Lily first appears in the anime of Yu-Gi-Oh! in episode 108.  Leichter of the Big Five plays this card against Seto Kaiba. This effect monster gave many problems to Seto Kaiba during the match. However, he was able to turn the tide in his favor against Leichter. Seto Kabia destroys this effect monster with Twin-Headed Behemoth

Injection Fairy Lily also appears in Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light. An unknown duelist summons this effect monster in a duel against Joey Wheeler. This effect monster injects Joey when she directly attacks him.

Card Rating:

Overall, Injection Fairy Lily was an amazing card for her time. She dominated her meta in 2004. The card has weaken due to new cards in the last 20 years. This effect monster still has a good effect. She can catch any unsuspecting opponent off guard. Therefore, I recommend playing Injection Fairy Lily in a casual deck.

Card Rating: 3.0 out of 5.0 stars
