Unit of The Week: Headwind Knight, Selim (V Series)

This is where I shine. Come harder at me!

[CONT](RC):If you have no face up cards in your damage zone, this unit cannot be chosen by your opponent’s card’s abilities.
[AUTO](RC):At the end of the battle that it attacked or boosted, COST [discard a card from your hand], and return one of your rear-guards to your hand.

Headwind Knight, Selim is a member of the Royal Paladins. He wields two swords for combat. He has two abilities with one ability for protection from powerful opponents. Headwind Knight, Selim provides situational support for his fellow Royal Paladins.

First Ability:

The first ability of Headwind Knight, Selim is resistance without the word resist. This card cannot be chosen by your opponent’s abilities if you do not have any face up cards in the damage zone. An opponent cannot retire, lock, delete, or dominate Headwind Knight, Selim. You will always have this Royal Paladin on the field in the back row.

This ability fits with the strategy for Blue Sky Knight, Altmile. You do not want face up cards in the damage. You will be rewarded with powerful abilities from Headwind Knight, Selim and Blue Sky Knight, Altmile.

Second Ability:

Headwind Knight, Selim returns one of your rear-guards to your hand after the battle that he attacked or boosted a rear-guard. You regain a rear-guard, and you may call it again on your next turn. This ability is a useful skill for reactivating abilities that activate when you place a rear-guard on the field.

For example, Absolute Blade Knight, Livarot has amazing synergy with Headwind Knight, Selim. You may call Absolute Blade Knight, Livarot on your next turn, and you may activate his ability to superior a rear-guard from the deck. You gain a major advantage with a new rear-guard on the field for additional offense.

However, the cost of this ability is too high. You discard a card to add a rear-guard to your hand. You lose a card for the opportunity to call a rear-guard again. The ability is not worth the cost because you lose a card for defense or offense.

Premium Format:

Headwind Knight, Selim has minor value in the premium format. His first ability is a useful skill to maintain a rear-guard in the back row. The second skill is not a great option, due to its cost.

Headwind Knight, Selim is a good rear-guard to play in a Sanctuary Guard deck. He is a grade one unit. He supports the archetype’s strategy of many grade 1 units on the field.

Card Rating:

Overall, Headwind Knight, Selim is a decent card. His first ability protects him from an opponent’s abilities. You will maintain him a booster on the field. The second ability has some usefulness, but the cost of the ability lowers the efficiency of this card. This card is a situational rear-guard with a few advantages.
