Ebon High Magician is a rank seven XYZ monster. This mighty wizard resembles the famous Dark Magician. Ebon High Magician is a defensive card with two unique effects. Players recognize him as being a member of the Dark Magician’s archetype because his artwork resembles the ultimate wizard. His effects also benefit the Dark Magician and all other Dark Spellcasters.

Ebon High Magician’s first effect allows you to play a quick-play spell or trap card from your hand during your opponent’s turn! His powerful magic bypasses the game’s rules and creates an amazing defense. You can counter your opponent’s strategy without him or her seeing it coming! Your opponent cannot stop you from playing the trap from your hand.
Furthermore, this effect protects your quick-play spell and trap cards. You do not need to set them on the field. Your opponent is unable to destroy them before the activation because they are in your hand. Keep those cards in your hand until you are ready to play them. Ebon High Magician hides your trap cards in your hand. Then, surprise your opponent by activating the trap from your hand!

Ebon High Magician’s second effect special summons a Dark Spellcaster from your hand or deck, and destroys one card on the field when he is destroyed by battle or an opponent’s card effect. You special summon a very powerful monster from your hand or deck to replace him. Thus, you are able to maintain a strong field. Furthermore, you gain an advantage by destroying one card on the field. This effect is perfect for destroying your opponent’s signature monster.
I like the effect’s concept of gaining a new monster after losing Ebon High Magician. It fits his defensive scheme by special summoning a new monster on your field. You have the opportunity to special summon a stronger monster on the field. One of my favorite targets for this skill is Dark Magician of Chaos. Dark Magician of Chaos’s effect triggers when he is summoned, and you draw any spell card from your graveyard.

Overall, Ebon High Magician is a good defensive card for Spellcaster decks. He perfectly fits in a deck with Dark Magician. You need to play this card in a deck with many Dark Spellcasters. I enjoy Ebon High Magician’s defensive effects because they counter my opponent’s strategy. I have an answer for my opponent’s next move.
