Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Valkyrie Zweite

[Fairy/Effect]

ATK/1,600 DEF/1,600

If this card is Summoned: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy it. After damage calculation, if this card battled: You can target 1 Continuous Spell in your GY; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of “Valkyrie Zweite” once per turn.

Valkyrie Zweite is a fairy and member of the Valkyrie from Yu-Gi-Oh!. She has synergy with many cards in her archetype and generic support for fairies. This effect monster has two simple effects. This effect monster controls the field and provides continuous spell cards for Valkyrie. The consistency from this effect’s ability to add continuous spell cards from the graveyard to the hand is great tool.

First Effect:

Valkyrie Zweite targets and destroys one of the opponent’s monster when you summon this card. A normal summon or special summon meet the conditions for the effect. You have the opportunity to destroy the opponent’s best monster.

You can easily activate this effect with Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen. This continuous spell card may special summon Valkyrie Zweite from the hand if your side of the field does not have a monster. The continuous spell card does not have a cost. It is an effective strategy for summoning this effect monster and activating her effect. You get a monster on the field for free and the opponent loses a monster.

Second Effect:

Valkyrie Zweite adds one continuous spell card from your graveyard to the hand after her battle. Valkyrie has many continuous spell cards for support. You gain a card for free after the battle.

Therefore, this effect is a useful skill when you need to regain one of your continuous spell cards. They are a key piece of your strategy. You can play the continuous spell card during the second main phase.

For example, Goddess Urd’s Verdict is an important continuous spell card for the protection of your monsters with Valkyrie in their names. You may use this second effect of this effect monster to add this card from the graveyard to your hand. You can play during the next main phase.

Add these continuous spell cards to your hand with the second effect of  Valkyrie Zweite!
  • Goddess Urd’s Verdict
  • Goddess Verdande’s Guidance

Support:

Valkyrie Zweite has good support from Konami. Valkyrie and generic cards for fairies support this effect monster. You can consistently play this card. Many cards have effects to add this effect monster to your hand. Other cards have the ability to special summon this effect monster to the field.

Goddess Urd’s Verdict is a stellar card for Valkyrie. This continuous spell card prevents the opponent from targeting your monsters with Valkyrie in their names such as Valkyrie Zweite and your monsters with Valkyrie in their names cannot be destroyed by a cards effect. This continuous spell card provides protection for this effect monster.

Support for Valkyrie Zweite may add her to your hand. Power Angel Valkyria and Valkyrie Dritte may add this effect monster to your hand. These cards provide access to this effect monster. You have her in the hand for an upcoming summon. Then, you will be able to activate her first effect.

In addition, many cards may special summon Valkyrie Zweite. Celestial Knightlord Parshath, Loge’s Flame, Valkyrie Sechste, and Valkyrie Vierte may special summon this effect monster. These cards have synergy with the first effect of this effect monster. You will be able to destroy an opponent’s monster.

Play these cards with Valkyrie Zweite.

  • Goddess Urd’s Verdict
  • Loge’s Flame
  • Power Angel Valkyria
  • Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen
  • Valkyrie Sechste
  • Valkyrie Vierte

Anime Appearance:

Zigfried von Schroeder plays Valkyrie Zweite in his deck. This card’s first appearance is in episode 189 of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Zigfried von Schroeder plays this effect monster against Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood.

Card Rating:

Overall, Valkyrie Zweite is a good card for Valkyrie. Her value comes from her second effect with the ability to add a continuous spell card from the graveyard to the hand. She provides consistency to the deck because Valkyrie wants its continuous spells on the field. Her first effect to destroy an opponent’s monster is a nice effect. Therefore, I recommend playing two to three copies of Valkyrie Zweite in your deck.

Card Rating: 3.0 out of 5.0 stars
