Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Scarred Dragon Archfiend

[Dragon/Synchro/Effect]

ATK/3,000 DEF/2,500

1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner DARK monsters
This card’s name becomes “Red Dragon Archfiend” while on the field or in the GY. If this card is sent from the Monster Zone to the GY: You can Special Summon 1 “Red Dragon Archfiend” from your Extra Deck (this is treated as a Synchro Summon), then, if this card was sent to the GY as Synchro Material for a DARK Dragon Synchro Monster, you can destroy all Attack Position monsters your opponent controls. You can only use this effect of “Scarred Dragon Archfiend” once per turn.

Scarred Dragon Archfiend is an evolution of Red Dragon Archfiend. This powerful synchro monster has two useful effects. It is a better card than the original Red Dragon Archfiend. It has access to Red Dragon Archfiend’s support, and this card can destroy all of the opponents monsters.

Sets:

  • Structure Deck: The Crimson King

First Effect:

Scarred Dragon Archfiend has the name of Red Dragon Archfiend when it is on the field and graveyard. It is an substitute of the original card on the field. It has access to the original card’s support.

Therefore, Scarred Dragon Archfiend has synergy with Red Dragon Archfiend’s support. You can create unique and powerful combos. Many cards in the archetype have the ability to special summon Red dragon Archfiend from the graveyard to the field.

For example, Scarred Dragon Archfiend has synergy with Red Zone. Red Zone destroys one card on the field when the opponent activate a card or an effect if your control Red Dragon Archfiend. The opponent loses one of his or her cards. Scarred Dragon Archfiend enables this trap’s effect due to the name from this effect.

However, Scarred Dragon Archfiend does not have the name of Red Dragon Archfiend when it is in the extra deck. You are unable to create combos with copies of this card. This synchro monster special summons Red Dragon Archfiend from the extra deck, and this restriction prevents it from special summoning itself from the extra deck.

Second Effect:

Scarred Dragon Archfiend special summons Red Dragon Archfiend from the extra deck when this card leaves to the field to the graveyard. You instantly replace one synchro monster with another synchro monster without a cost. Your field has a strong monster on the field.

Furthermore, the best strategy is using Scarred Dragon Archfiend as material for a synchro summon. This strategy sends this card to the graveyard. You will have a new synchro monster from the synchro summon and Red Dragon Archfiend from this effect.

In addition, Scarred Dragon Archfiend destroys all of the opponent’s monsters in attack position if you use this synchro monster as material for the synchro summon of a dark dragon synchro monster. This effect controls the field. The opponent potentially loses a lot of resources if he or she has multiple monsters on the field.

Furthermore, this effect gives a lot of momentum to you and opens the door for victory. Scarred Dragon Archfiend may potentially destroy all of the opponents monsters. Your field has two synchro monsters on the field. You can potentially inflect massive damage with Red Dragon Archfiend and your new synchro monster with two direct attacks.

Synchro Summon:

Scarred Dragon Archfiend requires a turner and one non-tuner dark monster for its synchro summon. The archetype and support for Archfiend easily meet the requirements. You can consistently synchro summon this synchro monster. The deck plays dark monsters such as Bone Archfiend and Wandering King Wildwind. Resonators have many tuners for the synchro summon.

One of the best methods for the synchro summon of Scarred Dragon Archfiend uses Bone Archfiend and Soul Resonator. These monsters are stellar materials. Soul Resonator may add Bone Archfiend to your hand, and Bond Archfiend increases the level of Soul Resonator to 4. You have two effect monsters with a total sum of eight levels. You may use Soul Resonator and Bone Archfiend as materials for the synchro summon of Scarred Dragon Archfiend.

Crimson Gaia and Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane may special summon this synchro monster from the graveyard. Both cards may special summon Red Dragon Archfiend from the graveyard. Their effects may also target Scarred Dragon Archfiend. They are useful cards to return to synchro monster to the field.

Red Gardna prevents the destruction of your monsters when your control a monster with Red Dragon Archfiend in its name. Scarred Dragon Archfiend benefits from this effect monster’s protection. The opponent cannot easily destroy this synchro monster with an effect.

Card Rating:

Overall, Scarred Dragon Archfiend is an excellent synchro monster. It is the perfect evolution of Red Dragon Archfiend, and this card complements the archetype. It has access to the archetype’s support due to its first effect. The second effect special summons the original version. Therefore, I recommend playing three copies of Scarred Dragon Archfiend in your extra deck.
