Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Machina Irradiator

[Machine/Effect]

ATK/1,700 DEF/2,400

You can discard 1 other “Machina” monster; Special Summon this card from your hand. You can target 1 Machine monster you control; Special Summon from your GY, 1 “Machina” monster with a different name and an equal or lower Level than that monster, and if you do, destroy that targeted monster. You can only use each effect of “Machina Irradiator” once per turn.

Machina Irradiator is a member of Machina and this card’s specialty is special summons. This monster is a machine with two effects. It fits the archetype’s strategy of quickly summoning machines with high levels. This card special summons itself and its allies.

First Effect:

Machina Irradiator special summons itself from your hand. You must discard one monster with Machina in its name for the cost. The effect is an effective method for a special summon. You do not use your only normal summon for the turn and you easily play this card.

The ability for a monster to special summon itself always has good value. You can consistently play Machina Irradiator due to this effect. The effect is very easy to activate in a pure deck of Machina.

In addition, you will have a normal summon for the turn. You may special summon this monster and normal summon another monster. Your field will have at least two monsters for your strategy.

Second Effect:

In addition, Machina Irradiator special summons a Machina from your graveyard. The effect requires you to destroy one of your machine monsters and you may special summon a Machina with a level equal or less than the other monster. The effect basically swaps a monster from the field with a monster from your graveyard.

The effect does not have any limitations within the archetype. You may special summon any Machina in your graveyard. It opens the door for combos and you may play the best card during the particular moment in the duel.

This effect is a smart tactic for strong combos. For example, you may normal summon Machina Gearframe and use its effect to add a Machina to your hand. Then, Machina Irradiator may destroy Machina Gearframe and special summon Machina Possesstorage from your graveyard. This combo activates the effect of Machina Possesstorage and Machina Possesstorage may special summon a Machina from your graveyard in defense position.

Rank 8 XYZ:

Machina Irradiator is a great card for Rank 8 XYZ Summons. The archetype has many monsters with the proper level. Machina Irradiator can special summon monsters with Machina in their names at level 8 such as Machina Air Raider and Machina Megaform.

For instance, you may use Machina Irradiator and Machina Megaform as XYZ material for the summon of Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy. This XYZ monster is a fantastic card for decks with level 8 monsters. Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy negates the effect of a spell card and attaches it to itself as material.

Use Machina Irradiator as XYZ material for these XYZ Monsters!

Limiter Removal is always a good card for machines. Limiter Removal doubles the ATK of Machina Irradiator to 3,400. You may consider this combo if you are attempting an early victory or making a last effort for the win.
