Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Grandmaster of the Six Samurai

[Warrior/Effect]

ATK/2,100 DEF/800

You can only control 1 “Grandmaster of the Six Samurai”. If you control a “Six Samurai” monster, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card in your possession is destroyed by an opponent’s card effect: Target 1 “Six Samurai” monster in your GY; add that target to your hand.

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is a member of the Six Samurai. This warrior has respectable stats of 2,100 ATK and 800 DEF. This warrior may special summon himself to the field. Grandmaster of the Six Samurai assists his fellow Six Samurais on the field with his effect and being material for special summons.

First Effect:

You may only have one Grandmaster of the Six Samurai on your field. Konami created this effect for the balance of this card. This effect is a restriction due to the second effect.

This effect monster would be broken if you could special summon three copies of this effect monster in a single turn. That situation would create many combos. Konami avoid this issue with this restriction.

Second Effect:

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai special summons himself to the field if your control another Six Samurai. This effect is a useful ability because you play a monster with a high level without a cost. Monsters with the ability to summon themselves to the field have a lot of value. You have an effect monster with respectable stats.

Furthermore, Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is a useful monster for Synchro Summons. This effect makes Synchro Summons to be easier to activate. He special summons himself to the field without a cost. You only need a tuner alongside him. Then, you may Synchro summon a Six Samurai from the extra deck.

Third Effect:

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai may add a Six Samurai from your graveyard to your hand if an opponent destroys Grandmaster of the Six Samurai with a card’s effect. You can quickly recover from your monster’s destruction. You have a new monster in your hand to summon on your next turn.

Furthermore, Six Samurai has many useful monsters. You can add any member of the archetype from the graveyard to your hand.  You may add useful a monster such as Kagemusha of the Six Samurai to your hand.

However, this effect has a major flaw because an opponent can easily avoid the effect’s activation and your advantage from the effect. An opponent many banish Grandmaster of the Six Samurai or destroy Grandmaster of the Six Samurai by battle. These methods prevent the activation of this effect. The opponent just needs a monster with a higher ATK than Grandmaster of the Six Samurai to destroy him in battle.

Material for Special Summons:

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is a useful monster as material for special summons from your extra deck. This effect monster fits the requirements for fusion monsters in his archetype. You may also use this card as material for Synchro summons

You may use Grandmaster of the Six Samurai as material for the fusion summon of Secret Six Samurai – Rihan. Secret Six Samurai – Rihan requires three Six Samurais with different attributes. You only need all three monsters on the field for this fusion summon.

In addition, Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is good material for Synchro summons of level seven Synchro monsters because Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is level five. You only need a level two tuner monster. You may use a tuner monster such as Kagemusha of the Six Samurai with Grandmaster of the Six Samurai to Synchro Summon Clear Wing Synchro Dragon.

Use Grandmaster of the Six Samurai as material for these monsters from the extra deck!

Support:

Six Samurai has stellar support for Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. Many cards in the archetype have synergy with this effect monster. You can consistently play combos to push your strategy for victory.
