Unit of The Week: Original Saver, Zero (V Series)

The grudge that threatens this planet, shall be removed no matter the means.

[AUTO]:When this unit attacks from (VC) or is rode upon, COST [Counter Blast (1) & Soul Blast (1)], draw a card, choose one of your opponent’s units, and increase or decrease its [Power] to 0 until end of turn. (Its [Power] at that time becomes 0)
[AUTO](VC)1/Turn:When this unit is attacked, COST [discard a grade 3 from your hand], and increase or decrease that attacking unit’s [Critical] to 0 until end of that battle. (Its [Critical] at that time becomes 0)

Original Saver, Zero is a classic unit from the original format, and Bushiroad recreated the card with questionable abilities. He is grade three unit with the Imaginary Gift: Force. Original Saver, Saver is a member of the dimension Police. This unit has unique abilities to weaken the opponent’s vanguard. One of this unit’s abilities avoids damage in a unique manner by decreasing the critical of the opponent’s vanguard to zero.

Power: Imaginary Gift: Force

Original Save, Zero is a unique card because it has a power of zero. It relies on the Imaginary Gift: Force for power. A marker gives power to him for can be able to hit the opponent’s vanguard in battle.

First Ability:

Original Saver, Zero decreases the power of your opponent’s vanguard to zero until the end of the turn when he attacks the opponent or you ride a card on top of him. It is an effective ability for weakening the opponent’s defense. You are forcing the opponent to use additional cards or a perfect guard to block your attacks.

Therefore, this ability prepares your offense. It puts a lot of pressure on the opponent. All of your units have a great opportunity to deal damage to the opponent. Your strongest attacks will be a challenge for the opponent to block them.

Second Ability:

Original Saver, Zero has a unique and defensive ability. Original Saver, Zero increases or decreases the critical of an opponent’s unit to zero by discarding a grade 3 unit. You avoid any damage from an opposing unit, and you do not need to guard your vanguard with any additional cards.

Therefore, you can take hits without any damage. An opponent’s unit may have equal or greater power than Original Zero, Saver. You avoid damage because the opponent’s unit lacks a critical to deal damage to you.

Weakness:

Original Saver, Zero is a mediocre card due to his weaknesses on defense. His second ability has limitations. You need grade 3 units to activate its first ability. You do not want to discard every grade 3 card for defense.

However, this ability has serious flaws. Original Saver, Zero heavily depends on grade 3 units in your hand for defense. It is very difficult to protect to vanguard due to its power of zero. You are able to use this ability without a grade 3 card, and you would be forced to use many cards to block attacks. You also need a perfect guard to survive an attack from the opponent’s vanguard.

Premium Format:

Original Saver, Zero is not a good card for the premium format due to his horrible defense. You have a vanguard with zero power, and this card depends on grade 3 cards in your hand for defense. Original Saver, Zero requires more cards than normal to block attacks. You could be able to consistently activate his second ability for defense to decrease the critical of opponent’s vanguard.

Furthermore, Original Saver, Zero does not add any power to G-Unit because he is a heart with zero power. Therefore, your G-Units would only have their original power. You would be at a disadvantage on offense.

The only positive from Original Saver, Zero is the ability to lower the opponent’s vanguard’s power to zero when you ride him. It is a nice advantage on offense. The opponent is at a disadvantage with a weaken vanguard without any power.

Card Rating:

Overall, Bushiroad took many steps backwards with Original Saver, Zero (V Series). The card offers a strong offense with its first ability. However, the card has terrible defense because it is too reliant on grade 3 cards and perfect guards. You cannot consistently win games with this type of strategy for defense.
