First Ability:

One Who Surpasses the Storm, Thavas rests a rear-guard to retire an opponent rear-guard. This ability fulfills two purposes. First, you remove the opponent’s best rear-guard from the field. Second, you set up the conditions One Who Surpasses the Storm, Thavas’s for second ability.

Furthermore, Aqua Force does not have many cards with the ability to retire rear-guards. You gain an advantage by removing an opponent’s best rear-guard. It is an effective ability for countering an opponent’s strategy. You prevent him or her from using a powerful ability from a rear-guard.

Second Ability:

One Who Surpasses the Storm, Thavas superior rides a grade 4 unit from the deck if you have three rear-guards at rest. You gain a powerful unit to be the new vanguard. This ability has amazing synergy with Marine General of Heavenly Silk, Lambros. Marine General of Heavenly Silk, Lambros stands any units at rest when you place him on the vanguard circle.

One Who Surpasses the Storm, Thavas does not have many options to superior ride. Marine General of Heavenly Silk, Lambros (V Series) is the only grade 4 for Aqua Force in the standard format at the moment. Additional options may be created by Bushiroad in future sets.

Furthermore, this ability resembles Stride for the standard format. You discard a card to superior ride a grade 4 unit. The only difference between the formats and mechanics is the grade 4 unit in the deck for the standard format.
