King of Knights, Alfred and His Comrades

My first Cardfight!! Vanguard deck was a Royal Paladin deck with Knight of Knights, Alfred. I guess it was destiny that led me to Royal Paladins. I started playing Cardfight!! Vanguard and bought two copies of Blaster Blade’s trial deck. Soon afterwards I pulled SP cards of Blaster Blade and King of Knights Alfred. The logical choice was to play Royal Paladins because I was getting the deck’s best cards at the time. My deck has evolved over time as Alfred received better supporting units.

King of Knights Alfred was one of Aichi’s signature grade 3 cards in season one of Cardfight!! Vanguard. Alfred is the king of the United Sanctuary. He has returned in many forms for the Liberators and Seekers. Bushiroad continued to create more generic and archetype support for the Royal Paladins’ king. He finally received new support in Vanguard & Deletor. I have listed some of Alfred’s best support since the very first booster set.

Grade Zero allies

Signpost Sage, Eluron

Alfred finally got an exclusive starter in Vanguard & Deletor. Put him into your soul to superior a grade 2 or less rear-guard not named Signpost Sage, Eluron to a rear-guard circle. You can make plays with Blaster Blade and Knight of Twin Sword.

Margal

Every Alfred deck needs Margal. He is a draw trigger so you gain the benefits when you check him. His skill is more important in an Alfred deck with Legion. Margal builds your soul to help the pay Ezel’s skill’s cost.

Grade One

Hidden Sage, Miron

Miron is a great addition in Alfred decks. She provides extra draw power. Her ability draws a card when she is superior called from your deck! Two to four copies of her will perfectly fit with Alfred.

Swordsman of Light, Blaster Rapier Laura

Swordsman of Light, Blaster Rapier Laura gives Alfred a permanent 1,000 power boost when she is behind him. Laura has resistance against your opponent’s effects. Opponents cannot lock or retire her. She will always remain a strong force behind Alfred. She is also a good booster behind your rear-guards!

Toypugal

Toypugal is one of those cards that will always be useful for Royal Paladins. It becomes a 9K booster when you have two grade three units on the field. Alfred’s and Ezzell’s Legion fulfill Toypugal’s requirements. Your rear-guards in the front row will benefit from Toypugal’s powerful boost!

Grade Two Soldiers

Blaster Blade

Blaster Blade is one of the signature Royal Paladin cards. He fits in nearly every Royal Paladin deck. Alfred can use his services in his time of need. He can retire potential interceptors on your opponent’s field.

Knight of Twin Sword

This young swordsman is a handy card to play if you are playing Stride with Alfred. His Generation Break superior calls another Royal Paladin to the field. You can replace a resting unit or fill in the second rear-guard circle in the front row.

Swordsman of Light, Blaster Axe Grawl

Blaster Blade is not the only Blaster in Alfred’s special forces. Swordsman of Light, Blaster Axe Grawl is one of the best units in an Alfred deck. Once per turn, he gains 3,000 power when an unit is called from the deck to a rear-guard circle. He is Alfred’s 12K attacker with additional conditions to be met for the power boost.

Grade 3 Commanders

King of Knights’ Vanguard, Ezzell

Ezzel is one of the best Legion revivals. He single handedly made Alfred a good card once again. His Legion skill is an upgraded version of Alfred’s skill. His ability superior calls a grade 2, grade 1 and grade 0 card from your deck. That is a huge advantage in many games. You are recruiting your special forces to set up your perfect formation. Their Legion ability can perform many combos with the cards listed above.

Ezzell is benefits from Alfred’s second skill. They gain 2,000 power from each Royal Paladin rear-guard on the field. Their maximum power is 31,000. Use Ezzell’s ability to superior call enough units to fill your field to maximize the Legion’s potential.

King’s Adjutant Knight, Galehaut

Galehaut is very useful in Alfred decks. You can ride him and activate his ability to superior ride Alfred as your vanguard. Galehaut will be moved from the soul to ta rear-guard circle. This ability is great to have when you do not have Alfred in your hand to ride the vanguard. Galehaut gives you what you need without actually needing to draw Alfred. There is not any room from him in King of Knight, Alfred’s deck. Ezzell takes the second grade 3 spot. If you are not playing Legion, then he is the best grade 3 to play alongside Alfred.

Stride

Transmigratory Dragon, Holy Squire Dragon

Transmigratory Dragon, Holy Squire Dragon is the first G-Unit with a Generation Break 3 skill. He looks like Blaster Blade transformed in a huge dragon with shiny armor. This powerful dragon gains 3,000 for each of your rear-guards on the field. Your rear-guards also gain 2,000 power! Holy Squire Dragon is useful against Star-vaders and other Link Joker decks with the ability lock your units.

The Final Word

My King of Knights, Alfred deck will always hold a special place in my collection for being my first vanguard deck. I am always working on making my deck better. The deck is better than ever with his new support. Generic Royal Paladin support from the G series booster packs has evolved the deck. It will continue to grow as new Royal Paladin cards are released from Bushiroad. I want to see him receive a Cross Ride and at least one more G-Unit in future booster sets. King of Knights Alfred will lead his comrades to victory. His winning image cannot be stopped by anyone.
