Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Toon Kingdom

[Spell Card]

When this card is activated: Banish 3 cards from the top of your Deck, face-down. This card’s name becomes “Toon World” while in the Field Zone. Your opponent cannot target Toon monsters you control with card effects. If a Toon monster(s) you control would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can banish 1 card from the top of your Deck, face-down, for each of those monster(s) instead.

Toon Kingdom is the field spell card for Toons. It is a superior version of the original Toon World. This field spell card resolves many weaknesses for the archetype. It provides protection for your Toon monsters. You can consistently play this field spell card because many cards in the archetype search for this card.

Sets

  • Dragons of Legend 2

First Effect:

Toon Kingdom requires you to banish the top three cards of the deck for its activation. You are losing three cards from the duel in exchange for a strong field spell. The payoff is the protection for your monsters with Toon in their names.

However, this cost for the activation is a potential drawback. You lose access to three cards from the game. This drawback becomes a problem if you are very unfortunate to banish three copies of a key card or the other two copies of Toon Kingdom in the deck.

Second Effect:

Toon Kingdom becomes Toon World on the field. It is a second and better option than the original Toon World. Its name meets the conditions for the monsters in the archetype. You may play cards such as Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon because this field spell’s name meets the condition for the summon.

Therefore, Toon Kingdom is a superior version of Toon World. It has the name of the original card. It has effects to benefit the monsters of the archetype.

Third Effect:

Toon Kingdom prevents the opponent from targeting your Toon monsters with their card’s effects. The opponent cannot target affect your Toon monsters with any effects. This protection avoid an effect from affecting a monster.

Furthermore, the opponent can play a card such a Raigeki because it does not target monsters. Toon Kingdom cannot prevent this destructive spell card. The fourth effect of this field spell protects your monsters from this type of card like Raigeki.

Fourth Effect:

This field spell card protects your Toon monsters from battle and effects. Toon Kingdom allows you to banish the top card of the deck if an effect would destroy a Toon monster or if a Toon monster would be destroyed by battle. The cost of the effect prevents the destruction of those monsters.

Therefore, this effect of Toon Kingdom reflects the ability of Toon World in the anime. This field spell prevents the destruction of your monsters. An opponents cannot destroy your Toon monsters in battle and cards’ effects.

However, the cost of this effect is an additional drawback. You are banishing a card from the deck. You are losing access to a card. It has a risk of losing access to one of the best cards in your deck.

Toon Kingdom is the main support for Toons. Many cards in the archetype have synergy with this field spell card. The support for this card mainly search for this card. Decks with this field spell need consistent access to it. Its support fulfills this requirement for the archetype.
