Spellcasters reached a new level of power in Return of The Duelist with the introduction of Spellbooks. This archetype of Spell cards enhanced every Spellcaster deck. Spellcasters became much faster and had great field protection against most threats. Spellbook of Secrets is one of the key cards in the archetype. It gives you instant access to all your Spellbooks! Spellbook of Secrets has only been printed once as an Ultra Rare and Ultimate Rare in Return of The Duelist.
Spellbook of Secrets searches your deck for any Spellbook card from your deck, and adds it to your hand. It is a perfect card for searching for cards to counter your opponent’s strategy. Its skill is basically a second draw for your turn. You have access to your complete library of Spellbooks. I normally search my deck for a Spellbook card to start the deck’s engine or to destroy my opponent’s cards.
Spellbook Combo: Draw Power Engine
This combo requires a Spellcaster on the field!
- Activate Spellbook of Secrets. Then, search your deck for The Grand Spellbook Tower, and add it to your hand.
- Activate Spellbook of the Master, and copy the effect of Spellbook of Secrets. Then, search your deck for Spellbook of Knowledge, and add it to your hand.
- Activate Spellbook of Knowledge, and draw two cards.
- Activate The Grand Spellbook Tower.
Furthermore, the Spellbook of Secrets is a strong card in its engine. You can reuse its effect from the graveyard with the Spellbook of the Masters. Spellbook of the Master copies an effect from a Spellbook spell card in the graveyard. It copies Spellbook of Secrets’ effect to search your deck for a Spellbook. Then, you may search your deck for another Spellbook card to gain more advantages!

Finally, Spellbook of Secrets has a good combo with Temperance of Prophecy. Temperance of Prophecy special summons any one level five or higher Light or Dark Spellcaster from your deck. You must play a Spellbook such as Spellbook of Secrets during your turn to activate the effect. In addition to gaining a Spellbook from Spellbook of Secrets, you also gain a powerful Spellcaster from Temperance of Prophecy’s effect. I use this combo to special summon Dark Magician from my deck.

It gives players the consistency that they need to play Spellbook decks to their fullest potential. They work great with Dark Magician, Spell Counters, and Prophecy.
