Unit of The Week: Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon)

That’s right! We need your power for this operation!

[AUTO]:If this unit was ridden from hand, the Soul Blast you pay for this cost is reduced by (1). When this unit is placed on (VC), COST [Soul Blast (1) & reveal a grade 3 card with an Aichi icon from ride deck], and when you would ride a card from ride deck during the ride phase of your next turn, you can ride without discarding a card from hand.
[AUTO]:When this unit is placed on (RC), if you have a vanguard with an Aichi icon, COST [put a non-sentinel normal unit with only «Royal Paladin» for its clan from drop on the bottom of the deck], and this unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn.

Little Sage, Marron is a card from Aichi Sendo’s original deck. Bushiroad has redesigned a second version of the card in the D-Standard Format of Cardfight!! Vanguard. This version of Little Sage, Marron includes the Fighter Icon of Aichi! This version of Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) supports the Royal Paladins with the Aichi Icon.

D-Standard Format:

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) is the grade one unit in the ride deck for the Royal Paladins with the Aichi Icon. This unit’s first ability activates when it is the vanguard. The ability reduces the cost of your ride deck.

In addition, Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) is a rear-guard for the deck. Its second ability activates when you place it on the field. It returns a normal unit from the drop zone to the deck. Royal Paladins can easily superior call units from the deck.

First Ability:

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) allows you to ride the next unit from your ride deck without you discarding a card from your hand. In addition, you may reduce the cost of the soul blast by one for the first ability if you ride Little Sage Marron (Fighter Icon) from the hand. The purpose of this ability is saving cards in your hand.

Therefore, Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) conserves the number of cards in your hand. You do not need to discard any card to ride Blaster Blade (Fighter Icon) from the ride deck. You save your card for either offense or defense.

Second Ability:

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) returns a normal unit from the drop zone to the bottom of the deck when you place this rear-guard on the field and you must have a vanguard with the Aichi Icon. In addition, Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) gains 5,000 power until the end of the turn. This rear-guard gains power and returns an important resource to the deck.

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) has synergy with King of Knights, Alfred (Fighter Icon). These units complement each other’s abilities. You may need a particular card and Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) returns the card from the drop zone to the bottom of the deck. Then, King of Knights, Alfred (Fighter Icon) may superior call this unit from the deck.

Furthermore, Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) is a rear-guard with 13,000 power with this ability. This rear-guard provides a strong boost. You can create a powerful column with this unit in the back row and a strong grade two rear-guard in the front row.

Support:

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) has strong synergy with Royal Paladins with the Aichi Icon. This grade one unit is a strong booster for the deck, and you may create effective columns with this unit in the back row behind a grade two rear-guard. You can easily get access to this card.

Furthermore, King of Knights, Alfred (Fighter Icon) can superior call Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) from the deck. This strategy triggers Little Sage, Marron’s second ability. You return a normal unit from the drop zone to the deck. Then, King of Knights, Alfred (Fighter Icon) can superior call the same card on your next turn.

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) and Blaster Blade (Fighter Icon) have a strong synergy. You can create a powerful column with both of these units because their abilities increase their power. Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) has 13,000 power due to her second ability. Blaster Blade (Fighter Icon) gains 10,000 power when he attacks an opponent’s grade three or greater unit. Therefore, Blaster Blade (Fighter Icon) has a total of 33,000 power after the boost from Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon)!

In addition, Knight of Silence, Gallatin (D Series) and Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) are an impressive duo on offense. They also create a strong column and pressure the opponent in battle. Knight of Silence, Gallatin (D Series) gains 5,000 power from his first ability. Therefore, Knight of Silence, Gallatin (D Series) has a total power of 28,000 with the boost from Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon)!

Play these cards with Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) in the D-Standard Format!
  • Blaster Blade (Fighter Icon)
  • King of Knights, Alfred (Fighter Icon)
  • Knight of Silence, Gallatin (D Series)

Premium Format:

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) is not a good card for the premium format. This card is restricted to Royal Paladins with the Aichi Icon. His first ability requires the ride deck and the second ability requires a vanguard with the Aichi Icon. The premium format does not have the ride deck.

Furthermore, Little Sage, Marron (V Series) is a better version of Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon). Little Sage, Marron (V Series) allows you to draw a card and he gains 3,000 power. An additional draw has more value than an ability to return a normal unit from the drop zone to the bottom of the deck.

Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) does not have any synergy with G-Units from Royal Paladin. Those G-Units do not have an Aichi Icon. Some of these cards can superior call this grade one to the field. However, their abilities will not trigger the auto skill of Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon)  because those cards lack the Aichi Icon.

Therefore, you must play Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) in a pure deck of units with the Aichi Icon. This deck is simply a copy of the deck from the D-Standard Format. It lacks the speed and power to compete against decks in the premium format.

Play these cards with Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) in the Premium Format!
  • Blaster Blade (Fighter Icon)
  • King of Knights, Alfred (Fighter Icon)

Card Rating:

Overall, Bushiroad created a good design for Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) in the D-Standard Format. This unit has value as a rear-guard and a vanguard. This card conserves the cards in your hand when you ride a grade two unit from the ride deck. This card returns a key card to the deck, and Royal Paladins often use the deck to access units. Therefore, I recommend playing Little Sage, Marron (Fighter Icon) in your deck.
