Unit of The Week: Brightlance Dragoon

Like a ray of light, a bright spear of lightning pierced through the battlefield.

CONT [V/R]: If you do not have another «Narukami» in the same column as this unit, this unit gets Power -2000.
ACT [V/R]: [Counter Blast (1)] This unit gets Power +1000 until end of turn.

Brightlance Dragoon is one of the worst cards in Cardfight!! Vanguard. The card is so bad that it doesn’t deserve a proper introduction from me. Brightlance Dragoon is the second 10K attacker for the Narukami clan. Despite being a 10K attacker, Narukami players do not use this card because of its mediocre skill set.

First of all, his continuous skill is a major weakness. He loses 2,000 power when there is not a rear guard in the same column. It is very ironic that Brightlance Dragoon’s weakness can be exploited by his clan. He is a terrible attacker against decks that can retire opposing units. Kagero and Narukami units have the skills to retire units in the back row.

Secondly, Brightlance Dragoon’s second skill isn’t very useful especially if he loses power for not having a rear guard in the same column. The skill is just a copy of the same useless skill the grade 1 units have from the trial decks. The skill does not create magic numbers to break the limits. A good player will not waste five counterblasts for a mediocre skill. In theory Brightlance Dragoon can become a 23,000 attacker by using his skill five times and receiving a boost from a 8K booster.  However, nobody in their right mind would make such an awful play.

Finally, Narukami decks have much better options for grade 2 units. Eradicator, Spark Rain Dragon, Eradicator, Thunder Boom Dragon, and Thunderstorm Dragoon are superior attackers for Narukami decks. Their attack power doesn’t have a requirement.

In conclusion, Brightlance Dragoon is the worst 10K attacker in the game. His skills are a joke. They do not benefit him in anyway possible. The first skill or restriction ruins Brightlance Dragoon’s value. A budget player shouldn’t consider using this card. It is a shame to see a bad card in Cardfight!! Vanguard. When you see Brightlance Dragoon burn it to ashes.
