The girl of steel, Supergirl is One of the most popular superheroes from DC Comics. She is a beautiful, fun, and strong character. Supergirl has a more tragic story than Superman because witnessed the destruction of Krypton. She saw her family die as she escaped the destruction. Supergirl is Superman’s cousin and only living relative in some adaptations. Supergirl is my favorite superhero from DC Comics. The writers at DC Comics love creating evil doppelgangers of Supergirl.
These evil doppelgangers appear in the comics and television series. They have their own motives for their crimes. Some doppelgangers of Supergirl seek to rule the universe. Other versions of Supergirl want to prove they are better than the original girl of steel. These evil doppelgangers are powerful villains in DC Comics.

Television Series
Bizarro Supergirl has a different origin and story in the television series. She was created by Maxwell Lord to be his Supergirl that he is able to control. Bizarro Supergirl was the perfect puppet for Maxwell Lord. She had the perfect image of the girl of steel until she was infected with Kryptonite. Bizarro Supergirl became deformed like herself from the comics.

Unique Powers
Furthermore, Bizarro Supergirl has the opposite powers of Supergirl to counter the superhero. For example, she has flame breath and arctic vision. Her flame breath counters Supergirl’s super breath. Her arctic vision counters Supergirl’s heat vision.
Dark Supergirl
Appearance:
- Supergirl Vol 5 #3
Powers:
- Flight
- Heat Vision
- Invulnerability
- Super Strength
- Superhuman Speed
The most popular counterpart of Supergirl from the comics is Dark Supergirl. Dark Supergirl is an evil version from Supergirl’s subconscious mind. Her black and white costume symbolizes her wicked personality. She was born from Lex Luthor using Black Kryptonite against Supergirl to corrupt her. However, the effects of Black Kryptonite divided Supergirl into Dark Supergirl and Supergirl.
Furthermore, Dark Supergirl is as strong as Supergirl, and she is very confident in her abilities. She used John Stewart’s Green Lantern Ring after she took it from him. Only a person with a great willpower can use a Green Lantern Ring. Dark Supergirl easily defeated Lex Luthor, Black Canary, and Hawkman without breaking a sweat.
Galatea
Appearance:
- Justice League (TV Series)
Powers:
- Flight
- Heat Vision
- Invulnerability
- Super Strength
- Superhuman Speed
Galatea is a clone of Supergirl from the Justice League (TV Series). Emil Hamilton created her to be the ultimate solider for Cadmus. She is a more mature version of Kara Danvers. Galatea has superior strength and combat skills than Supergirl, due to her maturity. Galatea’s mission is to destroy the Justice League.
Additionally, Galatea represents the opposite of Supergirl. She is a very sadistic person. Galatea has a deep hatred for Supergirl. She disobeyed orders for the opportunity to kill the girl of steel. Galatea nearly fulfilled her dark wish to kill Supergirl, but the girl of steel survived on both battles.
Do not mistake Galatea for Power Girl because they wear similar costumes and have the same hairstyle. Both characters are alternate versions of Supergirl. Galatea is a clone of Supergirl from the same universe, and Power Girl is from Earth-Two. Only Galatea’s design and DNA have a connection to Power Girl.
Overgirl
Appearances:
- Final Crisis
- Supergirl (TV Series)
Powers:
- Flight
- Heat Vision
- Invulnerability
- Super Strength
- Superhuman Speed
Some alternate versions of superheroes are from different universes. Overgirl was from Earth-10, and she had a different upbringing than Supergirl. Unfortunately, the Nazis won World War 2 in this universe. They have a powerful influence in their world. Overgirl was a clone of Overman in Final Crisis. She was raised by Nazis in Supergirl the television series. Overgirl and her husband, Führer Oliver were the rulers of Earth-X in the television series.
- Supergirl (TV Series)
However, Overgirl in the television series had a major difference from Supergirl. She had an unhealthy heart from excessive solar radiation unlike her heroic counterpart. She wanted to transplant Supergirl’s heart into her body. Supergirl was the perfect person to be her unwilling donor. Overgirl died from her excessive solar radiation as her body exploded from the unstable radiation.
Red Daughter
Appearance:
- Supergirl (TV Series)
Powers:
- Flight
- Heat Vision
- Invulnerability
- Super Strength
- Superhuman Speed
Unique Powers:
- Harun-El Blast
Supergirl used Black Kryptonite to defeat the wicked Reign, but she does not know the consequences at the time. Supergirl actually created a clone of herself, Red Daughter. Her doppelganger, Red Daughter did not have any memories from the original girl of steel. Lex Luthor took advantage of Red Daughter’s ignorance of her origins, and he manipulated her to fulfill his evil ambitions. Then, Lex Luthor betrayed Red Daughter after she fulfilled his goals.
In addition, Red Daughter has unique powers that Supergirl does not have. Red Daughter may be more powerful than Supergirl. Her powers give her major advantage in battle. For example, Red Daughter can unleash powerful Harun-El Blasts. This ability catches Supergirl off guard. Red Daughter brutally defeats Supergirl in season 4 of the television series.
Final Thoughts
Altogether, the evil doppelgangers of Supergirl are unique characters in DC Comics, and they have more depth than just simple clones. Every version has a unique personality, motives, and backstories. The alternate and evil Supergirls are memorable characters from the comics and television series. Who is your favorite evil doppelganger of Supergirl? Share your opinions in the comments, and I look forward to reading your comments.
Very interesting. I didn’t know much about Galatea and did wonder if and how she was related to Power Girl since the costume is so similar. Thanks for the informative article.
A cool analysis of our heroine’s almost identical enemies which I only know from the TV show, not being one for comics. I felt a little sad for Overgirl, knowing that in the show, she fell into the laps of a victorious Nazi regime as a child and her upbringing had twisted what would have been a kind and loving heart. Red Daughter was a little different, being an adult, but Lex managed to manipulate her kindness and twist her. By getting her to become sympathetic to the poor and impoverished local people it was easy to turn her against “America” who he managed to convince Red Daughter was responsible for their plight.
