Abominable One, Gilles de Rais is a vampire from planet Cray. He has major differences from the original card from Cardfight!! Vanguard G. The original Abominable One, Gilles de Rais is a G-Unit, and this new version is a grade 3 unit. His new version has new artwork, two abilities, and the Imaginary Gift: Protect.
First Ability
Abominable One, Gilles de Rais superior calls a grade 2 or less card from your soul. You regain any unit that you put in the soul. It is an effective ability to play one of your best rear-guards in your deck. Dark Irregular often sends powerful cards to the soul. You may soul charge a card that you want to call, but you need a way to get it from your soul. Abominable One, Gilles de Rais uses the soul as an additional hand or source for rear-guards.
Furthermore, many Dark Irregulars have AUTO abilities and these abilities activate when you call them. Emblem Master is one of the best units to superior call. His ability has wonderful synergy. Emblem Master adds up to three cards to your soul. The soul gets a quick boost, and you may activate more skills if you meet their requirements.
Second Ability
Abominable One, Gilles de Rais retires one of your opponent’s rear-guards when he attacks a vanguard. The ability only requires your soul to have at least ten cards. The ability does not have a cost. Abominable One, Gilles de Rais retires one of your opponent’s best rear-guards. Grade 2 rear-guards are the best targets to retire because your opponent loses an interceptor.

However, Dark Irregulars already have a vanguard with superior versions of the same abilities. Ghoulish Despoiler has the same abilities as Abominable One, Gilles de Rais, and Ghoulish Despoiler’s abilities have additional advantages. Ghoulish Despoiler soul charges two cards, and Dark Irregulars want to build the soul. He also gains 10,000 power.
Premium Format:
Abominable One, Gilles de Rais offers two advantages as your vanguard in the premium format. You gain a Protect marker and a rear-guard from your soul. Then, Abominable One, Gilles de Rais becomes a vanilla vanguard and heart after you use those abilities. Your G-Unit will become vanguard to control the flow of your field.
Furthermore, Abominable One, Gilles de Rais is a useful rear-guard in the premium format. Both of his abilities activate when he is your vanguard or a rear-guard. You can retire your opponent’s best rear-guard during every battle phase. It is a good strategy to weaken your opponent’s defenses and remove a strong rear-guard from the field.

Overall, Abominable One, Gilles de Rais is a disappointment in comparison to his counterpart from Cardfight!! Vanguard G. His abilities are not going to impress the competition. Dark Irregulars have better options for a backup vanguard. Abominable One, Gilles de Rais is only a decent card for a budget deck or casual deck. His abilities can be a decent unit for budget decks.
