Fans around the world were in shock when Kai revealed the new Dragonic Overlord as a Break Ride card. This is the first card outside promo releases that is a direct reinvention of a classic card, it shares the same as the original Dragonic Overlord. This powerful dragon serves as the base for Cross Rides, Dragonic Overlord the End and Dragonic Overlord the Re-birth. It should be noted that you may only have four copies of a card with the same name per deck, you can have a combination of the original Dragonic Overlord and the Break Ride version of Dragonic Overlord. However, you cannot have four copies of card in a deck.

Dragonic Overlord (Break Ride) is excellent support for Dragonic Overlord and Kagero decks. His Break Ride skill stands the vanguard after it attacks an opponent’s rear-guard for the cost of one Counter Blast and discarding a card. The single discard requirement is a major improvement from Dauntless Drive Dragon’s requirement to discard two cards. After two or three attacks and paying the skills’ costs the player will gain a total of three cards from the Twin Drives.

Additionally, Dragonic Overlord (Break Ride) is a better choice than Dauntless Drive Dragon for Dragonic Overlord’s decks as it serves as the base for the Cross Ride to become a 13K unit and gain access to the Break Ride skill. This skill is best suited for the Re-birth as the first two Twin Drives set up Re-birth’s Limit Break by gaining the necessary resources to make the big play. The CrossBreak Ride guarantees Re-birth will have three attacks and Twin Drives in one turn which will increase its chances to get triggers to push for game.

On the other hand, Dragonic Overlord the End benefits from having an interceptor retired to increase its next attack’s chances to hitting a vanguard, and the End has a full field to work with unlike Re-birth. Triggers’ effects from the End’s Twin Drives should be given to rear-guards if the End’s attack at the vanguard will not hit. The supporting rear-guards can push from game if the End fails to seal the deal. However, Dauntless Drive Dragon does guarantee Dragonic Overlord the End will be able to attack the vanguard at least twice in a turn unlike Dragonic Overlord because the End’s attack must hit in order to perform a second attack at the vanguard.

Overall, Dragonic Overlord is definitely a top five Break Ride unit. Its ability to give its Cross Rides three attacks in a single turn, retire a rear-guard, and give intense pressure to an opponent is a game changing play. It is nearly impossible for any deck to block all three attacks from a 23K vanguard. The hour has arrived for Dragonic Overlord to burn its enemies into ashes.

Card Rating: 5 out of 5
