Effects:
Ectoplasmic Fortification has two effects and you can only activate one of the effects. Your decision should be based on the current state of the duel. You can add a key monster or Call of the Forgotten from the deck for an early setup. On the other hand, you may increase your monsters’ attack points if you have already established your field.
First Effect:
Ectoplasmic Fortification adds a level six zombie monster or Call of the Forgotten to your hand. This spell card provides a key resource to your hand. You have two options and the decision should be based on the current state of the duel. You can gain an additional resource from Call of the Forgotten or you can get access to a monster.
For instance, Pumpking the King of Grave Ghosts is a good option with the effect of Ectoplasmic Fortification. This strategy also provides Call of the Haunted. You will gain two key cards. Ectoplasmic Fortification may add Pumpking the King of Grave Ghosts from the deck to your hand. Pumpking the King of Grave Ghosts with its effect sets Call of the Haunted from the deck or graveyard.
In addition, Army of the Haunted is another option when you control Call of the Haunted. This effect monster special summons itself from the hand when you control Call of the Haunted. Ectoplasmic Fortification may add Army of the Haunted to your hand. Then, you may special summon Army of the Haunted and you now have a new monster on the field.
Ectoplasmic Fortification may add Call of the Forgotten to your hand. Call of the Forgotten is an effective field spell for zombies. This field spell sets up to three copies of Call of The Haunted from the deck and graveyard.
Add these cards to your hand with Ectoplasmic Fortification!
- Army of the Haunted
- Pumpking the King of Grave Ghosts
- Call of the Forgotten
Second Effect:
Ectoplasmic Fortification adds 400 attack points to all of your zombies and you may draw cards equal to the number of Call of the Haunted on your field. This spell increases your offense and provides resources. You have the potential to draw multiple cards if you meet the conditions.
The increase in attack points can help zombies overcome the opponent’s monsters in battle and inflict additional damage by battle. A field with multiple zombies can potentially pressure the opponent. For instance, Pumpking the Great Ghost King has 2,400 ATK and the effect of Ectoplasmic Fortification increases Pumpking the Great Ghost King’s attack points to 2,800. Army of the Haunted also has 2,400 and its ATK becomes 2,800 with Ectoplasmic Fortification.
Furthermore, Ectoplasmic Fortification has the potential to allow you to draw up to three cards. A realistic outcome is drawing one card when you control one copy of Call of the Haunted. The best outcome is drawing three cards when your field has three copies of Call of the Haunted, and Call of the Forgotten can ensure three copies of this trap card. Ectoplasmic Fortification helps you get access to additional cards for your strategy.
Support:
Ectoplasmic Fortification only fits in decks with zombies and Call of the Haunted. Many cards in the archetype of Call of the Haunted support this spell card. This type of deck can search for this spell card. All monsters in the archetype benefit from this second effect of Ectoplasmic Fortification.
Pumpking the Great Ghost King and Stare of the Snake Hair may add Ectoplasmic Fortification from the deck to the hand. Both cards consistently provide access to this spell from the deck. You will be in position to activate it during the same turn.

Matchup: Weaknesses
Ectoplasmic Fortification has multiple weaknesses. Some cards can negate the activation of this card. Decks have options to counter this spell card’s first effect. Some cards are able to partially counter the second effect of this spell card.
Many cards can negate the first effect or activation of Ectoplasmic Fortification. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring negates effects to add cards to the hand such as this spell card. Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon negates the activation of Ectoplasmic Fortification.
DNA Surgery partially counters the second effect of Ectoplasmic Fortification. This spell card only adds 400 attack points to zombies. An opponent may activate DNA Surgery and change the type of all monsters on the field. For example, an opponent activates DNA Surgery and declares all monsters to be dragons. Therefore, Ectoplasmic Fortification cannot add attack points to any monsters on the field in this situation.
Card Rating:
Overall, Ectoplasmic Fortification is an effective spell for zombies. It adds consistency to decks with Call of the Haunted. This card provides resources with both effects. It can also increase the attack points of all of your zombies. Therefore, I recommend playing Ectoplasmic Fortification in your deck.
