[Warrior/Effect]
ATK/2,600 DEF/2,100
(Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 Dragon Fusion Monster; Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 Attack Position monster on the field; change it to Defense Position. You can Tribute this card; add 1 Level 7 or higher Warrior monster from your Deck to your hand, except “Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight”. You can only use each effect of “Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight” once per turn.
Gaia is one of the first archetypes from the original series of Yu-Gi-Oh!. Konami has expended the archetype and added monsters such as Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight. Not all cards from nostalgia are created equal. This card is an example of a disappointment. This warrior is a level seven monster with three effects, and one of the effects is the ability to special summon itself.
First Effect:
Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight special summons himself from your hand if you tribute a fusion dragon monster for this special summon. This quick effect may activate its ability during either player’s turn. It plays this warrior and triggers this warrior’s second effect.
However, this effect is not worth the cost. This effect demands too many resources. You use materials for the fusion summon of the fusion monster. You lose the fusion monster in favor of a weaker monster.
Furthermore, this effect may be a major downgrade. Most dragon fusion monsters in modern decks have powerful effects and you are more likely to play those cards instead of Gaia the Dragon Champion. The fusion monster may have stronger effects than Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight. You are likely to lose an advantage with the dragon fusion monster when you replace it with this warrior after the special summon.
In addition, Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion is a dragon and fusion monster, and it is a better card than Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight. Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion has stronger effects. It adds a card to your hand and it changes the battle position of an opponent’s monster.
Second Effect:
Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight changes one monster from attack position to defense position when you special summon this effect monster. It provides an advantage in battle. You can change an opponent’s powerful monster with a high ATK to defense position. The opponent’s monster may be vulnerable in battle.
For example, this effect may change Blue-Eyes White Dragon from attack position to defense position. Blue-Eyes White Dragon has 2,500 DEF. Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight would have the advantage with ATK 2,600, and he would destroy this monster in battle.
Third Effect:
The effect offers consistency to the your deck. You may tribute Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight to add a level seven or higher monster to your deck to your hand. You may add any powerful warrior and set up your strategy to summon the level seven or higher monster.
Furthermore, this effect has many targets from a large library of powerful warriors. Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight complements Black Luster Soldier and Gaia. These archetypes have many level seven and higher warriors.
However, this card costs many resources to play it just for this final effect. It is not worth the cost of four or more cards to add a warrior from the deck to your hand. There are more effective cards than this effect monster for the same strategy with a small cost.
Add these warriors to your hand with the effect of Solider Gaia The Fierce Knight!
- Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning
- Black Luster Soldier – Super Soldier
Material for Fusion Monsters:
Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight is material for a variety of monsters. This warrior is a perfect fit for fusion material for monsters in the archetype of Gaia. This warrior fits the name or type of monster for the requirements.
For example, you may use Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight and a dragon as fusion materials for Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion. This fusion monster is a decent card. It has better effects than this warrior.
Furthermore, is also fusion material for Curse of Dragon, the Magical Knight Dragon. This fusion monster requires a warrior and one level five or higher dragon monster. It has a decent effect.
Use Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight as material for these fusion monsters!
- Curse of Dragon, the Magical Knight Dragon
- Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion
Support:
Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight is a decent amount of support. Konami has created support for the archetype of Gaia and some cards in the archetype fit with the Dark Magician. You may play this card in a variety of decks.
Black Luster Soldier – Super Soldier may special summon Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight from the deck. It is an effective strategy for playing this effect monster. This strategy triggers the second effect of Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight, and you may activate the third effect to add a level seven or higher warrior from the deck to your hand.
Play these cards with Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight!
- Black Luster Soldier – Super Soldier
- Curse of Dragon, the Magical Knight Dragon
- Galloping Gaia
- Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion
Card Rating:
Overall, Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight is a mediocre card. The first effect is an ineffective skill with a heavy cost and it is worth it. His only value is the third effect. You can add powerful monsters such as Black Luster Soldier – Super Soldier from the deck to your hand. Therefore, I only recommend playing Soldier Gaia The Fierce Knight in a casual deck.
