Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Magmacho Dragon

[Pryo/Effect]

ATK/1,800 DEF/2,200

You can banish up to 3 FIRE monsters from your GY; this card gains 400 ATK for each, until the end of this turn. If a face-up FIRE monster(s) you control is destroyed by card effect, while this card is in your GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card (but banish it when it leaves the field), then draw 1 card. You can only use each effect of “Magmacho Dragon” once per turn.

Magmacho Dragon is a pyro monster with the attribute of fire. This effect monster supports fire monsters. It has two effects with unique abilities for offense and to special summon itself. Both of its effects requires fire monsters.

Sets

  • Phantom Nightmare

First Effect:

Magmacho Dragon may banish up to three fire monsters from your graveyard. This effect monster gains 400 ATK for each fire monster banished by this effect. The effect provides offense during your turn. It is an option to increase this card’s ATK to overcome an opponent’s powerful monster.

Therefore, the total ATK of Magmacho Dragon becomes 3,000 until the end of the turn if you banish three fire monsters from the graveyard. This effect monster is able to destroy many monsters in battle due to this effect. It is a useful ability when you need to destroy an opponent’s monster in battle.

Second Effect:

Magmacho Dragon special summons itself from the graveyard when your fire monster is destroyed by a card effect. You instantly replace your previous monster with this card. The best feature is the effect is the free ability without a cost.

Furthermore, one of your monsters’ effects may trigger this ability. For example, Fire King High Avatar Kirin may destroy one of your fire monsters with his effect to special summon himself. Then, it triggers the ability of Magmacho Dragon to special summon itself from the graveyard.

However, the only drawback of this effect is banishing this effect monster when it leaves the field. You are unable to reuse this ability without a method to return this card to the graveyard. You lose access to this effect monster.

The effect also only activates when a card’s effect destroys your fire monster. An opponent can easily avoid this effect. An opponent may banish your fire monster or destroy it by battle.

Extra Deck Material:

Magmacho Dragon is a useful card for the special summons of monsters from the extra deck. This effect monster is a level eight monster, and it special summons itself from the graveyard. You can easily use this card for a Rank eight XYZ summon.

For example, Magmacho Dragon and Fire King High Avatar Kirin are level eight monsters. You may use these effect monsters to XYZ summon Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings. Your field now has a powerful XYZ monster for your advantage in the duel!

Use Magmacho Dragon as material for monsters from the extra deck!
  • Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings

Support:

Magmacho Dragon is a generic card. You can insert this card in any archetype or generic deck with fire monsters. You may play this effect monster with archetypes such as Fire Kings and Salamangreat.

Hiita the Fire Channeler and Infernal Flame Banshee may add Magmacho Dragon from the deck to your hand. These cards are common monsters for decks with fire monsters. These two cards provide consistent access to this effect monster.

Fire Recovery is a fantastic card with Magmacho Dragon. You may use this spell card to special summon this fire monster from the graveyard. This spell card complements the first ability of this effect monster. Magmacho Dragon banishes three fire monsters from the graveyard. Fire Recovery may return those monsters to the deck and allow you to draw a card.

Card Rating:

Overall, Magmacho Dragon is a mediocre card. Its best effect is summoning itself from the graveyard. You can use this card as material for ranked 8 XYZ monster. This card only reaches its full potential in a deck with only fire monsters. Therefore, I only recommend playing Magmacho Dragon in your deck if it fits the strategy.
