[Spellcaster/Xyz/Effect]
2 Level 7 Spellcaster-Type monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy Spell/Trap Card(s) your opponent controls, up to the number of “Spellbook” Spell Cards in your Graveyard.
Hierophant of Prophecy is a rank seven XYZ monster. He can only be XYZ summoned with two level seven Spellcasters. He has a very good 2800 ATK and 2600 DEF. He is an Ultra Rare and Ultimate Rare in the TCG’s and OCG’s Return of the Duelist. Hierophant of Prophecy is one of the coolest looking Spellcasters. His stunning artwork makes him one of my favorite XYZ monsters. He looks like he is ready to go to war with his duelist!
Effect:
Hierophant of Prophecy destroys your opponent’s Spell and Trap cards up to the number of Spellbook Spell cards in your graveyard. His effect is a repeatable Heavy Storm, and he can be amazing when timed perfectly. A Spellcaster deck with Spellbooks can easily put five or more Spellbooks in the Graveyard to maximize the effect.
Furthermore, Hierophant of Prophecy is a great card to play when your opponent has many cards in his or her back row. If an opponent has one card in their back-row, then Mystical Space Typhoon or Breaker the Magical Warrior are better options to destroy a single card. Maximize Hierophant of Prophecy’s effect and only use it when the opponent has many cards in the back row.
XYZ Summon Hierophant of Prophecy!
Spellcasters have many unique options to XYZ summon Hierophant of Prophecy! There are many level seven Spellcasters to choose from! The Dark Magician and High Priestess of Prophecy are very easy to special summon to the field. First, a very lucky player can special summon two copies of High Priestess of Prophecy from the hand to use them to perform the XYZ summon. Secondly, The Spellbook of Life manipulates a Spellcaster’s level and can increase the Spellcaster’s level to seven to use it as XYZ Material.
Furthermore, Spellbook of Miracles can special summon Hierophant of Prophecy from the graveyard and attach two banished Spellbooks to him as XYZ Material. A player can easily banish two Spellbooks in two turns with High Priestess of Prophecy’s effect or do it in one turn by activating the powerful Spellbook of Fate. Not only is he special summoned to the field, he also has fresh XYZ Materials to use to activate his effect again.
Unfortunately, Hierophant of Prophecy does not receive much attention because there are better ranked seven XYZ monsters for Spellcaster decks. Number 11: Big Eye and Ebon Illusion Magician are major game changers. They are in a league above Hierophant of Prophecy. Furthermore, Spellcasters also have efficient cards to protect field such as Spellbook of Wisdom, High Priestess of Prophecy, and Spellbook of Fate.
Card Rating:
Overall, Hierophant of Prophecy is one of my favorite XYZ Spellcasters. He is easy to summon and has a very good effect. His effect can be truly devastating to the opponent’s back-row! It is a bit disappointing to see him overlooked because he is a very good card to destroy multiple spells and traps per turn. Hierophant of Prophecy is ready to shine bright alongside his fellow Spellcasters.
