Don’t take me for a frail princess. Let me return this to you.
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):[Counter Blast (2) & Choose two of your «Shadow Paladin» rear-guards, and retire them] At the beginning of the guard step of the battle that this unit was attacked, you may pay the cost. If you do, choose an opponent’s rear-guards not attacking or boosting, and retire it.
[AUTO](VC):When this unit attacks a vanguard, this unit gets [Power]+3000 until end of that battle.
Witch of Cursed Talisman, Etain is the first female grade 3 Shadow Paladin. It’s nice to see the Shadow Paladins being an egalitarian society with female leaders. I wanted a copy of Witch of Cursed Talisman, Etain the first moment I saw her and my copy of Witch of Talisman, Etain along with The Dark Dictator arrived in the mail this week!
Her Limit Break is very interesting. Most Limit Breaks focus on offensive tactics. However, Etain’s Limit Break is a defensive skill. I love unique defensive abilities because I strongly believe a strong defense can win many games. When attacked she can retire any opponent’s unit, who is not attacking or boosting when the Limit Break is activated. She can retire a front row rear guard, who is currently standing and ready to attack. Most notably she can prevent Blue Storm Dragon, Maelstrom, Revenger, Raging Form Dragon, and Spectral Duke Dragon from activating their skills because they would lack the requirements to activate their Limit Breaks. Her Limit Break also weakens units like King of Knights, Alfred, Leading Jewel Knight, Salome, and The Dark Dictator.
Unfortunately, her Limit Break has major setbacks. Its cost is the most notable problem. Her Limit Break requires two Counter Blasts and you must retire two Shadow Paladin rear guard units. That’s a very high price to prevent one attack.
However, you can minimize her Limit Break’s cost with a little help from her Shadow Paladin comrades. Illusionary Revenger, Mordred Phantom is the most obvious support unit. Break riding Etain above him will give her a 10,000 power boost and most importantly superior call a grade 2 or less Shadow Paladin from the deck to the rear guard. Skull Witch, Nemain is Etain’s best friend. Nemain’s skill allows the player to draw two cards. Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeter is also a pretty good card. Revenger, Dark Body Trumpeter can cheaply superior call a grade 0 unit from the deck to the rear guard. These units help fuel Etain’s Limit Break’s cost.
Finally, Witched of Cursed Talisman, Etain’s best skill is her vanguard skill. It is very ironic for a defensive card’s more attractive skill to her offensive skill. As a vanguard, she gains 3,000 power when attacking the opposing vanguard. The power boost makes up for her 10K base. This really helps her to battle against Cross Ride units.
In closing, Witch of Cursed Talisman, Etain is a very nice card to add to a collection. Her art is awesome. However, she needs more support to be an effective vanguard. She has potential to be a good card if she receives efficient support such as a damage flipper and possibly a Cross Ride unit to further advance her defense.
