Bushiroad made a surprising announcement on Wednesday. Fans have been expecting a new series. I did not expect this turn of events. Bushiroad is rebooting the original Cardfight!! Vanguard series. This new series will follow manga by Akira Ito. Aichi and Kai return as the main protagonist. The trailer shows the classic game between Aichi and Kai. We will witness the manga’s version of the creation of the legendary Team Q4.
New Rules!
A new series come with new cards and rules. First, we have a new mechanic, The Imaginary Gift. A unit with the marker for an Imaginary Gift will give a blessing to the player. There are three types of blessings. Accel, Force, and Protect are the first three Imaginary Gifts. Each clan has access to one of the three Imaginary Gifts.
Second, All triggers now give 10,000 power to units, and we have a new trigger. The new trigger is Front Trigger. It gives 10,000 power to the entire front row. This trigger will change the game! It brings a new dimension in building a strategy. You may want to play extra Front Triggers to overwhelm your opponent or you may make a deck with 12 Critical Triggers to deal extra damage with just a single attack. The power is in your hands.
However, Stand Triggers are not currently in the Standard Format. Stand Triggers did not see much play in most of the original Cardfight!! Vanguard’s history. The G-Era turned a new page for Stand Triggers. Bushiroad developed many new Stand Triggers with powerful abilities. I play two to four Stand Triggers per deck. Their abilities can give me an edge and getting an extra attack can seal the deal for many games.
New Formats!
Cardfight!! Vanguard will feature two formats for the foreseeable future. The first format is Standard. Standard format only features cards from the new Cardfight!! Vanguard series. The Premium format is our second format. Premium format features every card in the history of Cardfight!! Vanguard. Do not throwaway your G-Zone just yet! You may still enjoy these cards with the new cards! Extend your Premium decks with the upcoming trial decks and booster set!
New Trial Decks and Booster Set!
Cardfight!! Vanguard will release two Trial Decks. These Trial Decks are Aichi Sendou and Toshiki Kai! The decks will include four copies of Blaster Blade and Dragonic Overlord. Then, Bushiroad will release the first booster set for the new series. Unite Team Q4 features new cards for Kagero, Oracle Think Tank, Nova Grappler, and Royal Paladin! Each booster box will contain sixteen booster packs of seven cards. Each booster pack contains five common cards and two cards of a higher rarity. They are set to be released on June 8th, 2018!
The End of the G-Era and Original Cardfight!! Vanguard
Cardfight Vanguard!! G had a great run. The last two years have been some of the best times for the game. Interaction between players brought a new element to the game. There was a time when players did not interact often during their opponents’ turns. Every clan became very good. They received the proper cards to elevate their abilities. Decks from every generation of vanguard continued to receive new cards in every set.
I am preparing to move on to the next era. I am not going to buy any new product of Cardfight!! Vanguard G. My plan is to save money for the upcoming trial decks and booster set. I do not believe Premium format will continue to generate interest from players and the format may become a small community over time. Many players are excited to see Cardfight!! Vanguard be revamped into its former glory. Former players are returning to the game. New players are now interested in learning a cheaper and easier game. Standard will continue to grow as it expands.
The Final Word
I am looking forward to the revamped Cardfight!! Vanguard series. I missed the time of a slower game with balanced cards. I hope Bushiroad will redevelop the interactions from Cardfight!! Vanguard G to the new Cardfight!! Vanguard. It will keep layers interested in the game. Key words should be added to this version without the G-units. This coming summer will be Cardfight!! Vanguard’s best summer yet!
