3 Things Yu-Gi-Oh! Can Learn From Cardfight!! Vanguard

Yu-Gi-Oh! has been widely criticized in recent years. In many players feel that the game has many problems. These problems have caused some players to move on to new games such as Cardfight!! Vanguard. Let’s take a look at three issues that Yu-Gi-Oh! can learn from Cardfight!! Vanguard.

1. Rarity Ratio

Rarity ratio is a huge problem in Yu-Gi-Oh! It has made the game so much more expensive. A card game should not get so expensive that it costs over $300 to make a good deck. That’s ridiculous.

Cardfight!! Vanguard isn’t the cheapest game in the world. However, the rarity ratio in booster packs is very good. It is so good that you have a fair chance of pulling useful cards or good trade bait.

A typical Yu-Gi-Oh! booster set comes with one or two secret rare cards. In Cardfight!! Vanguard there is a SP in 1 out of 480 packs. This may sound terrible at first. However, almost every SP card has a RRR rarity version. RRR rarity cards are 1 out of every 10 booster packs. This makes the game more playable for players. Cardfight!! Vanguard players have much better odds of pulling a powerful RRR King of Knights, Alfred then Yu-Gi-Oh! players pulling a High Priestess of The Prophecy.

Another problem are Konami’s rarity bumps. This makes the game very expensive for Western players. For example High Priestess of The Prophecy is a super are in Japan. However, in America High Priestess of The Prophecy is a secret rare. That’s a huge rarity bump. To my knowledge there are not any rarity bumps in Cardfight!! Vanguard. Bushiroad has not changed any rarities in Western booster packs and trail decks.

2. Balanced Cards

Cardfight!! Vanguard is famous for being a very balance game. Each card and clan are balanced. There is no superior clan to play. However, there are easier clans to master such as Gold Paladins and Royal Paladins. Every clan has a fair chance to win games and tournaments.

However, this is much different in Yu-Gi-Oh. Yu-Gi-Oh! is one of the most unbalanced games I have ever played. Every format has a dominated arch-type because Konami creates unbalanced arch-types and cards only for profit. Konami greatly influences players to play unbalanced(broken) decks that are expensive. Konami does this by creating the most broken cards in the game such as Spellbook Judgement Day. Konami doesn’t care about the game’s health and quality. A balance game can still generate profit. Cardfight!! Vanguard has proven that over the past year. An example would be the Wind-Ups. Players have been calling for the Wind-Ups to be banned for awhile now. Konami finally responded by banning Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity and limiting Wind-Up Magician. However, Wind-Ups are still just as dangerous as ever.  Wind-Ups has already dominated a YCS this year.

3. No One Turn Kills

Card games are made to be fun! OTK’s(One Turn Kill) are not fun at all. They take away the enjoyable of having a good match. OTK’s(One Turn Kill) are terrible on the receiving end. Losing to an OTK is common in Yu-Gi-Oh. However, OTK’s are impossible in Cardfight!! Vanguard. Cardfight!! Vanguard gives both players a fair chance to win the game.
