First Effect:

Celtic Mystic rebuilds your hand, and this effect has its advantages. Celtic Mystic reveals your entire hand and allows you to draw three cards if you revealed a card with Light and Darkness Ritual in its text. Then, you must discard two cards to resolve the effect.

Therefore, Celtic Mystic can be a good card at any point during a duel. Your current hand may not have the cards to advance your strategy or counter the opponent. This effect monster provides the opportunity to improve your hand and discard less important cards for the current state of the duel.

In addition, Light and Darkness Ritual and a card with this ritual spell in its text are the perfect cards to discard for the resolution of this effect. You can recover both of these cards during the same turn. The effect of Light and Darkness Ritual allows you to add it and a card with this ritual spell in its text from the graveyard to your hand. For instance, you regain Light and Darkness Ritual and a ritual monster such as Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness.

However, the effect restricts your ability to special summon monsters from the extra deck. You can only special summon one monster from the extra deck this turn. This limitation forces you to consider the best option from the extra deck if you decide to play a monster from the extra deck. On the other hand, Celtic Mystic is in Chaos decks, and this restriction is not a problem if you are focusing on ritual summons.

Second Effect:

Celtic Mystic is an option for ritual summons in decks with Light and Darkness Ritual. You may tribute Celtic Mystic and special summon a ritual monster with Light and Darkness Ritual in its text. Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness are two options for this effect.

Therefore, Celtic Mystic adds consistency to decks with Light and Darkness Ritual. You may not have a ritual spell card in your hand for the ritual summon. This card provides an additional option for this strategy. You may still play ritual monsters such as Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness and Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos.

For instance, you may tribute Celtic Mystic and special summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from the hand. This strategy triggers one of the effects of Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos. Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos allows you to add a spell from the graveyard to the hand. You may add a spell such as Chaos Mystic Box from the graveyard to your hand.

In addition, Celtic Mystic and Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness have synergy. Their combo controls the field. You may tribute Celtic Mystic for the special summon of Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness, and Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness banishes one of the opponent’s cards when you special summon him. You gain a powerful ritual monster and the opponent loses a key card.

Special summon these monsters with the effect of Celtic Mystic!
  • Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness
  • Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos

Support:

Celtic Mystic has consistent support from the archetype of Chaos. The cards from Chaos set up this warrior’s effects. Decks from this archetype can search for this effect monster. You have multiple ways to special summon this card to your field.

Support: Searchers

Many cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! can search the deck for Celtic Mystic. You have consistent access to this card. You may want this card in your hand to normal or special summon him for his effects.

Cards such as Gaia, the Polar Knight, Mind Shuffle, Reinforcement of the Army, and Ragged Records of Rites may add Celtic Mystic from the deck to your hand. These four cards fit the deck for Chaos. These cards can search for a variety of monsters for this archetype.

For instance, Mind Shuffle adds a monster with Light and Darkness Ritual in its text from the deck to your hand and you discard one card. Celtic Mystic meets this requirement. You discard Light and Darkness Ritual for the resolution of this trap’s effect to add it back to your hand with its effect. You maintain your key cards.

Play these cards with Celtic Mystic.
  • Gaia, the Polar Knight
  • Mind Shuffle
  • Reinforcement of the Army
  • Ragged Records of Rites
Support: Special Summon

Chaos has options to special summon Celtic Mystic. You will want to special summon this card for the activation of his first effect. Cards such as Chaos Zone and Shadow’s Light can special summon this warrior.

For instance, Chaos Zone can special summon Celtic Mystic from banishment. You may have banished this light warrior for a special summon of a monster such as Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. This field spell removes four Chaos Counters and special summons Celtic Mystic from banishment to the field. This tactic triggers this warrior’s first effect.

Shadow’s Light may special summon Celtic Mystic from the deck. This spell requires a dark monster of the same type and level as Celtic Mystic. Evening Twilight Knight is a level four monster and a warrior, and meets these requirements. You may normal summon Evening Twilight Knight and activate Shadow’s Light to special summon Celtic Mystic from the deck.

Play these cards with Celtic Mystic.
  • Chaos Zone
  • Shadow’s Light

Matchups: Advantages

Celtic Mystic counters Amorphage and the archetype’s card, Amorphage Lechery. Amorphage Lechery does not allow players to play spells and their effects except for spells with Amorphage in their names. This effect prevents you from playing a ritual spell such as Light and Darkness Ritual. You can bypass this restriction with the second effect of Celtic Mystic. You may still summon your ritual monsters with Light and Darkness Ritual in their text by tributing Celtic Mystic with his effect.

Matchups: Disadvantages.

Celtic Mystic has disadvantages against particular cards and decks. This warrior does not have any inherent protections. Some cards can disrupt this effect monster and his effects.

For instance, many cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! can negate effects, and this strategy is a weakness of Celtic Mystic. Cards such as Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence can negate the effects of Celtic Mystic. Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon negates this warrior’s effects and destroys him. You lose the advantages from this warrior’s effects.

Masked HERO Dark Law punishes you for the first effect of Celtic Mystic. This fusion monster can potentially disrupt your strategy. This fusion monster randomly banishes a card from the opponent’s hand when he or she adds cards from the deck to the hand outside of the draw phase. Masked HERO Dark Law can potentially banish a key card such as Light and Darkness Ritual or Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from your hand.

Card Rating:

Overall, Celtic Mystic is an effective card with two powerful effects. This warrior is a strong card for some builds for Chaos. This card adds consistency to ritual summons for the series with Light and Darkness Ritual. This effect monster may also improve your hand. Therefore, I recommend playing Celtic Mystic in your deck.

Card Rating: 4.5 out of 5.0 stars
