Unit of The Week: Blade Wing Reijy

Dance for me, Destruction Wing! Blade Feather Downfall!

[CONT](VC):If the number of «Dark Irregulars» in your soul is fifteen or more, this unit gets [Critical]+2.
[AUTO]:When this unit is placed on (VC), choose one of your «Dark Irregulars» rear-guards, search your deck for up to three cards with the same name as that card, put them into your soul, and shuffle your deck.

Blade Wing Reijy is a classic card from Cardfight!! His skills were terrifying in his prime. Vanguard. Ren plays this card in season two of Cardfight!! Vanguard. This was the only moment in series that Ren played a deck of Dark Irregulars. He relied on Blade Wing Reijy’s skill to have a strong center column.

First, Blade Wing Reijy gains two criticals if your soul is fifteen or greater from his first skill. He was a dangerous card in his prime. Blade Wing Reijy pressures your opponent into a corner. The Twin Drive gives him potential to deal five damage to an opponent if a player is able to check two critical triggers. Opponents would guard their vanguard with a perfect guard or over guard to avoid an instant defeat. Today players can play G-Guardians to block the attack as well.

Secondly, his second skill can soul charge up to three cards from your deck. You must give close attention to your deck’s state and which rear-guard has many copies in your deck. This skill can quickly soul charge your soul if you are able to send three cards to the soul. The skill can be repeated if you ride Blade Wing Reijy again, but this is not a good strategy in today’s format. Extra grade 3 units are more useful to discard to Stride your G-Units.

Thirdly, Dark Irregulars have many units with skills to quickly build your soul. A master of Dark Irregulars is able to soul charge cards every turn. Emblem Master is still one of the best rear-guards from the early days of Cardfight!! Vanguard. He can soul charge three cards if his attack hits a vanguard. One successful attack will give you 1/5 of the cards needed for your soul.

Overall, Blade Wing Reijy has not aged well in the today’s era of Cardfight!! Vanguard. He has passed his prime many formats ago. New defensive tactics have made his skill less threatening. G-Guardians are a great option to set up Generation Break and if you do not have a perfect guard because G-Guardians can easily block his attack. Blade Wing Reijy needs new skills to be an effective card for today’s standards. He already has good support to build the soul, but not the skills to be a good vanguard.

Card Rating: [usr 2]
