First Effect:

Lightsworn Aegis negates the effects of the opponent’s cards for the turn up to the number of monsters with Lightsworn in their names on your field. This trap has the potential to negate the effects of multiple cards. You will need to control multiple monsters with Lightsworn in their names to gain the full benefit of this trap.

Furthermore, Lightsworn Aegis can stop or slow an opponent’s strategy for a turn if you have multiple monsters with Lightsworn in their names. For example, this trap negates three of the opponent’s cards if you have three monsters with Lightsworn in their names. This amount of negations counters many strategies.

In addition, you may activate Lightsworn Aegis during your turn. You are more likely to have multiple monsters with Lightsworn in their names during your turn than the opponent’s turn. Many of the Lightsworns are played on their player’s turns and are used as materials for special summon specials.

Second Effect:

Lightsworn Aegis sets itself to the field when it is sent from the deck to the graveyard. This effect complements Lightsworn’s effects. The archetype mills cards at the end of every turn. Some cards in the archetype may send specific cards from the deck to the graveyard.

Furthermore, you can easily activate this effect. Many monsters from Lightsworn mill cards on every turn. The archetype consistently activates this effect. You gain a free trap.

However, this effect’s flaw telegraphs your strategy. The opponent is aware of this card in the spell and trap zone. He or she can try to play around it. They can activate a card’s effect to lure you to activate Lightsworn Aegis to only negate their current cards on the field.

Support:

Lightsworn Aegis is a good fit for Lightsworn. The trap has synergy with the majority of cards in the archetype. Cards in the archetype consistently enable both of its effects.

Furthermore, the best strategy for this card is sending it to the graveyard instead of drawing it. You will get a free card. Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress and Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn are some of the Lightsworns with the effect to mill cards from the deck. They have a chance to send this card to the graveyard and trigger its second effect.

In addition, Lightsworn Dragonling and Minerva, the Athenian Lightsworn provide consistency to this trap. Lightsworn Dragonling and Minerva, the Athenian Lightsworn may send Lightsworn Aegis from the deck to the graveyard. The effects of these monsters enable the effect of this trap. This trap may set itself to the field.
