Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Review: Dark Magician

The ultimate wizard in terms of attack and defense.

The Dark Magician is Yugi’s favorite card. He has been by Yugi’s side since the very first episode and would stay as a main card in Yugi’s deck! The Dark Magician has a respectable 2,500 attack points and 2,100 defense points. He is no easy monster to take down. His 2,500 attack points are more than enough to destroy most monsters!

Furthermore, the Dark Magician started with a good supporting cast. Dark Magic Attack, Dark Magician Girl, Dark Magician of Chaos, Skilled Dark Magician, and Dark Paladin are just a few of the Dark Magician’s early supporting cast. Unfortunately, Dark Magician of Chaos is currently banned. However, the majority of the Dark Magician’s support is still playable.

Spellbooks & Prophecy

The Dark Magician gained new and stronger support in Return of The Duelist!  Spellbooks support all spellcasters, and this includes the Dark Magician. Spellbooks offer a variety of effects to protect your spellcasters and increase their attack points (ATK).

Temperance of Prophecy can special summon the Dark Magician from the deck much faster than the Skilled Dark Magician. Temperance of Prophecy only requires one Spellbook spell card to be activated while Skilled Dark Magician requires three spell cards to be activated.

Furthermore, Spellbook spell cards are a major boost to Dark Magician decks. Spellbook of Wisdom can provide protection from traps or spells. Cards like Spellbook Star Hall and Spellbook of Power can increase the Dark Magician’s attack points.

Card Rating:

Overall, the Dark Magician becomes the ultimate wizard with help from good support. He has a strong supportive cast of Magician Girls, Spellbooks, and generic cards for spellcasters. Normal monsters such as the Dark Magician need extra assistance to reach levels of greatness. You can build a competitive deck with Yugi’s faithful Dark Magician.
